Plastic Free July is coming to an end so we thought we’d share some of our favourite plastic-free swaps that are easy to introduce into everyday life.
Reusable bottle

Did you know that 1 million single-use plastic bottles are bought worldwide every minute, with each bottle taking 450 years to break down into tiny pieces. Investing in a reusable water bottle is great way to cut down on single-use plastics, drink more water and save money! There are so many great companies to choose from including Ocean Bottle, Chilly’s, S’well and Ohelo.

Period products

DAME create period products that cause as little harm to the environment as possible when made, used and finished with. DAME tampons are 100% organic and plastic-free, whilst their wrappers are home compostable and biodegradable. Their product range also includes reusable pads, applicators and underwear (coming soon)! A Certified B Corp, DAME is the world’s first carbon neutral period brand; to date, they have saved over 6 million plastic period products from being thrown away.

Cleaning SPRAYS

Homethings offer household cleaning sprays that can be refilled and reused again and again. Simply drop one of their non-toxic cleaning tabs into your bottle (made from glass or recycled plastic), add tap water and start cleaning! Every refill tab has 90%+ less CO2 emissions than a single-use bottle, plus you’ll be saving one single-use plastic bottle from every being produced.

KANKAN make refillable soap and glass bottles with an aim to reduce our single-use plastics at home. Guided by the principles of the circular economy, their products are plant-based, vegan, cruelty-free and greywater safe. Not only that, all their aluminium cans and glass bottles are delivered to customers in Flexi-Hex packaging.

Sustainable wipes

90% of the 11 billion wipes sold in the UK contain plastic, making them the third most common litter item in UK waters. They take more than 100 years to degrade, leaving behind harmful microplastics that pollute land, rives and oceans contributing to carbon emissions and climate change. Pura are on a mission to ban the sale of plastic wipes and replace with plastic-free, sustainable alternatives. As well as wet wipes, they also create eco-friendly nappies and hand sanitiser. All their products are made from organic ingredients and sustainable, biodegradable materials.

Cling film alternatives

With summer in full swing, The Beeswax Wrap Co. make it easier for you to enjoy a plastic-free picnic or barbecue, whether you’re at home, in the park or on the beach. Handmade in the British countryside, their beeswax and vegan wraps are 100% plastic-free, reusable, compostable and biodegradable. Use them to wrap up your prepped fruit and veg, sandwiches or to cover leftovers.
